You hit on something really important here John. Other 'simpler' values that relate to "just work" that seem to be in the air these days are thrift, service, community, and family. All of the simple values happen also to be the ballasts that brought our country and world through the last great calamitous economic period.

great stuff, John. I can tell you this - my grandfathers were happy to have regular jobs. I spent a lot of time with them in their later years and they didn't talk much about being "passionate about their work." They never discussed their "retention rate" and how they progressed through their "job families."

Neither missed more than a few days of work in their 30+ yr career. They were proud to have regular jobs, and the quality of their efforts was a result of the work ethic they held dear.

Call me crazy, but I think many of us are already viewing "work" with a different perspective. It's only been six months for me (this newfound perspective). But I can promise you, I'll never look at "work" the same.
