With no observable business model and limited barriers to entry, the proliferation of social software/networking sites is reaching a screaming peak. All cultures have subcultures. Many subcultures have their own subcultures. Subcultures can be nearly unrecognizable parts of the overall culture. If you do something at the top level, it needs to be adjusted as your targeting gets more precise.

One of the reasons that Nationally based marketing has low response rates is that the buying issues and decisions vary widely by region. In the B2B universe, it’s critical to understand the local nuances. Localization is everything. (more…)

Personal publishing hits the Recruiting Industry in a variety of ways. From the Recruiter’s perspective, there are nearly infinite options for reaching out to prospective candidates. From the candidate’s perspective, the array of options for declaring one’s availability and competencies is enormous.

Blogs, communities, podcasts, video blogs, video interviews, video resumes, participative rating systems, networking tools, social software and, electronic trade groups offer dizzying volumes of possibility. The number of Recruiting blogs is over 500. The number of individual contributor blogs is in the Millions. From a sourcing perspective, the number places to look is overwhelming. (more…)

Inflection

If you read the Wikipedia definition of an inflection point, you may come away confused.

An inflection point is “a point on a curve at which the curvature changes sign. The curve changes from being concave upwards (positive curvature) to concave downwards (negative curvature), or vice versa. If one imagines driving a vehicle along the curve, it is a point at which the steering-wheel is momentarily “straight”, being turned from left to right or vice versa.” (Wikipedia)

As industries grow and change, they pass through inflection points. These are moments when the structure is in place for a change but the change has not yet begun. Looking back, you can see the shift from the old order to the new. In the moment, however, it feels like the eye of the hurricane. Inflection points are the calm before the storm. (more…)
